5.2.8 Streams

Streams are used to visualize the flow-paths from single or multiple points in the model at the timestep the simulator has reached. New streams can be added from the Show streams entries in the <RMB> menu in the 3D view after a timestep has been simulated. The streams can be animated by first defining the number of steps in the the Animation toolbar and thereafter starting the animation. See also the Flowpaths description,

Each new stream is added to the Workspace and the properties of each stream can be set accordingly in the Stream properties panel . The user can turn on/off visibility of each individual stream and select which property should be plotted along the stream. Different draw styles are also available for the streams, including lines, points and comets.

The stream paths are also stored to temporary xyz files in the db/outcome folder. These xyz files maybe loaded into basemap and mapped only layers as polygon lines.

2

Visible

2. Visible
Set if the stream should be visible or not in the 3D view.
3

Property

3. Property
Choose which property (e.g., Depth or Flowrates) that the streams should be coloured according to. The Fixed option will used a fixed colour for the stream.

Draw style

5. Draw style
Set draw style for the stream. Available options include lines, points, arrows and comets.
6

Fixed colour

6. Fixed colour
Set which colour to use for the stream. Only takes effect if Property is set to Fixed
7

Draw 3D primitives

7. Draw 3D primitives
If the graphics card on your machine does not support the advanced (shader-based) stream representation, it is possible to turn off this option by unchecking this option.
8

Size

8. Size
Change size of the streams.
9

Comet length

9. Comet length
Change the element length (width to length ratio) if the comets draw style is used
10

Comet tail width

10. Comet tail width
Change the tail width (width to length ratio) if the comets draw style is used
11

Arrow scale factor

11. Arrow scale factor
Change the scaling (length to width ratio) if the arrow draw style is used
12

Emit factor

12. Emit factor
The Emit factor controls the speed by which new points will be emitted along the streams when running animations.
