4.5.1 Flowpaths

Streams are used to visualize the flow from one or many points at the time-step the simulator has reached. Streams are only available from the <RMB> menu in the 3D view after a time-step has been simulated. In Figure 4.11 we have created 12 streams by first picking 12 points and thereafter using the Add Stream/Stream From/All Picked Nodes command. Each stream is added to the project workspace and the properties of each stream can be set accordingly. More details on the possible configurations and options for streams can be found in the Streams chapter.

The streams can be animated by first defining the number of steps in the Stream animation button of the Animation toolbar and thereafter starting the animation with the OK button. The animation should be stopped by the Stop animation toolbar button which is red as long as an animation is active.

The stream paths are also stored to temporary xyz files in the db/outcome folder. These xyz files maybe loaded into basemap and mapped only layers as polygon lines.

It is also possible to create profiles that follow individual streamlines. This is done by selecting Add Profile/Full Flow Path Profile from the <RMB> menu in the 3D view.

Figure 4.11: New Streams have been defined at 13 Ma and are ready for animation.
