1.3 Licensing

MigriX supports two alternative license control systems:

- License key - an uncounted MigriX license, which will only function on one designated computer.

- FLEXnet licensing - using a license file.

On MacOS, only the License key option is currently available. We plan to support for floating licenses at a later stage.

By default, the License key option is selected. The license can then be activated by opening the License Status panel (Figure 1.1) in the Help menu. This will show information about the current license, once it has been activated. A 30 day trial period can be activated by pressing the Start free trial period button.

If you have a license key available, it can be activated by pressing the Activate with license key button. If you need to move a license to a different computer, you will first need to deactivate it using the Deactivate license... button, before re-activating the key on the other computer. Note that these actions require internet access at the time of license activation/deactivation. For more details on these options, see the License Status panel description.

In case you do not have internet access, or the firewall is blocking the online license activation, you may instead request an offline response file to perform the activation. We will send you this response file by email, and you must then choose the "Offline activation" option when entering the license key.

In order to change to the FLEXnet licensing system, open the License Settings panel, choose the Use FlexNet license option and fill in the license details. The license can then be checked out by pressing either the Use local license... or the Use server license option in the License Status dialog. MigriX will remember your settings the next time you start it, so you only need to do this operation once.

Obtaining a FLEXnet license

In order to obtain a node-locked or floating license key, please contact Migris support at support@migris.no. In order to generate the license, we require hardware information (hostID) for the machine where MigriX will be installed (for node-locked licenses) or on the machine where the license server will be running (for floating licenses).

The easiest way to obtain this information is to open MigriX and go to the File->License Settings dialog. Click on the Show hostID button and copy the contents displayed into an email to Migris support in order to generate the new license which is returned to you.

Activating a FLEXnet node-locked license

To activate a node-locked license, simply copy the new license-file onto your system. We recommend storing the license files in the FLEXnet folder in your MigriX installation (e.g. C:\Program Files\MigriX\FLEXnet\migri_new.lic). After installing the license, launch MigriX and choose File->License Settings (see Figure 1.2).

In the License Settings dialog, set the “Path to local license file” to point to the new license file and click “OK” to save.

Note that the license will not be checked out until a project has been opened.

You can use the VikingX demo project to test if the license is operational. The current license status can be checked in the File->License Status panel.

Activating a FLEXnet floating license

A license server is required to use a floating license. FLEXnet is used by a number of G&G software vendors, so in most cases your company will already have multiple FLEXnet license server running. If so, simply forward the new license file to the system administrator.

The license server is identified by the hostid, name (or IP-address) of the license server and a port number assigned to FLEXnet. Ask your system administrator if you do not already have this information at hand.

After the license has been installed, launch MigriX and open the File/LicenseSettings dialog. Edit the “License server (port@host)” field so that it points to the address of your license server. If you always want to use a server license instead of a local license, you may unselect the “Check local license first” option. When finished, click “OK” to save your changes.

Note that the license will not be checked until a project has been opened  (using e.g. File->Open Project). The current license status can be checked in the Help->License Status panel.

For more information on starting a FLEXnet license server for MigriX, see the License Server section.
