1.2 Installation

You can download the MigriX installation programs from the Migris download site at migrixdownloads.migris.no.

Supported platforms

MigriX can be run on Windows, MacOS (10.15 Catalina or newer) or Linux (built on Centos 7.6) and is available in 64 bits versions only. The Windows, MacOS and Linux versions use the same license manager system, and you can use the same license files for both versions as long as you have active licenses for the platform you are running MigriX on.

Windows installation

MigriX runs on 64 bits versions of MS Windows (7, 8, 10 and 11).

If the MigriX installation is done by an adminstrator user, the MigriProjects folder is not copied into the home directories of the other users on the system. MigriProjects can then be
copied over manually from the installation directory (e.g. c:/Program Files/Migris/MigriX/MigriProjects) to the user directory (e.g. C:/Users/name/MigriProjects).

Linux installation

After downloading, you may install MigriX by extracting the tarball. For example:

cd /installed_path (substitute use your own install path for installed_path below)
gunzip migrix_1-4-0_linux-64.tar.gz   (for MigriX version 1-4-0)
tar -xvf migrix_1-4-0_linux-64.tar

Once installation is complete, you can launch MigriX from the startup scripts in the installation directory:

It's advisable to define aliases and include them in the login profile for easy access. For example:

alias runMigriX /installed_path/migrix.sh

Alternatively, MigriX can be launched manually using the following steps:

setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH /installed_path/MigriX/lin64:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
cd /installed_path/MigriX/lin64  (this is required before launching MigriX).

./migrix   & will launch the MigriX program
./migrino & will launch the Migrino viewer program.

The MigriProjects folder in the installation directory contains a set of MigriX demo projects in the MigriProjects folder.
We recommend copying this folder into the user home directory before opening them.

MacOS installation

After downloading, unpack the installation zip file. Open the Applications folder in Finder and drag the extracted MigriX.app file into the folder.
MigriX can now be started by clicking on the application icon in Finder.

Notable differences between the Windows, Linux and MacOS versions:

MigriX tries to cope with the differences in file-naming for paths. It should therefore be possible to run MigriX on Linux, MacOS and Windows with the same project files. File-names that mix lowercase and uppercase letters may be stored as such in Linux and MacOS while Windows does not differentiate between  uppercase and lowercase. Therefore Linux/MacOS sometimes may have problems finding files that have been stored on Windows systems.

The first time MigriX is started on Linux/MacOS, a ~/MigriProjects directory will be created (‘~’ points to the user’s HOME path in Linux). MigriX requires such a directory to work properly, so please do not delete this directory. The MigriProjects directory can be used to put links to all your projects for quick navigation to existing projects.

Hardware requirements

MigriX requires a graphics card and drivers with OpenGL version 2.0 support. See Help/About (the Details button) for information on the graphics card and OpenGL version of your computer. Make sure that you have the latest drivers for your graphics card installed. You can also use the Linux command  lspci | grep VGA  to determine which graphics card you have installed.

License manager

MigriX uses a license management system and a license key or access to a license server is required in order to load and create models. Trial licenses can be activated by going to Help/License Status and choosing the "Start free trial period". If you have purchased a license key, this can be activated by choosing the "Activate License Key" option in Help/License Status. See Licensing for more details.

Demo Projects

The installation contains a small demo project named VikingX. The project can be found in the MigriProjects folder in the user home directory (e.g C:/Users/name/MigriProjects/VikingX/) on Windows systems, and in the installation directory on Linux systems . On Linux, we recommend copying this project over to the home directory before starting to use it.

To open the VikingX project, use File->Open Project and select the VikingX/migri/VikingX.mirp project file. This should load a simple 3D model, and you are ready to start testing MigriX.  See the Demo project walkthrough chapter for more information on how to get started.

Additional public Migri models are available for download from https://migris.no/opendata/
