4.8 Model calibration

This functionality requires the MigriXplore license feature

MigriX results can be calibrated by using a manual approach, comparing a single simulation caserun against a set of observation data. The calibration data can include maturities (%Ro), pressure, temperature and/or hydrocarbon column heights  from wells within the study area.  The input data can be viewed and edited in  the Observations Tables editor.

Once a simulation run has been completed, the modelled Maturities can be compared in map-view to the Maturity /(%Ro) observation data by using the properties in the Results/Maturities/CalibrationRo folder in the Project workspace. The Ro.error property will plot the difference in map view between the observed mean %Ro and the modelled %Ro for a given layer.

Similarly, the observed hydrocarbon column heights can also be compared against the observation data by using the Results/Hydrocarbons/CalibrationHC property plots. The HCcolumn.Error plot shows the difference between the modelled and observed total hydrocarbon column height for a given trap.

The Wells Calibration tool allows for comparing modelled and observed data for selected wells.  The calibration plots include Temperatures, Maturities and HC Zones/Shows. Figure 4.34 shows an example of Maturity plots for three wells.

It is also possible to plot modelling results together with observation data as log tracks in the Log Viewer window, using the following approach
      1) Create a vertical well log using the "Show vertical log" option in the 3D View
      2) Use the Add plot drop-down menu to add new calibration tracks.
      3) Use the Location/Observations data to select which wells should be included in the plot.
      4) The current vertical log position can be changed by switching well in the Well column, or by clicking in the preview map.

In the example shown in Figure 4.35, log tracks for Maturity and Temperature calibration has been added and is showing all data within 40km of the selected well (30/2-1).

Finally, it is also possible to display the calibration data as well points in the 3D view, by selecting Import Table/Observations from the right mouse button menu in Wells. By plotting the same property (e.g. pressure or temperature) on all layers in the Project workspace and setting Point colour type=Project workspace legend in Wells, a visual comparison of the modelled and observed data can be made.
