1.5 FAQ

This page contains a short list of frequently asked questions for MigriX. For a more extensive list, see the online Migris FAQ page.

Q: What is the recommended hardware configuration for MigriX?
A: MigriX is available on 64bits Windows (7, 8, 10 and 11) and Linux (built on Centos 7)
We recommend 64 bits configuration with at minimum of 4 Gb RAM available, but 8 Gb or more is recommended. OpenGL version 2.0 is required for some animations. See Help/About/Details for information on the OpenGL version of your computer.

Q: The MigriX for Windows installer won't launch. Why?
A: If the MigriX installer programs quits directly or hangs after startup, it may be that the Antivirus/file shield software you are running is blocking the application. To avoid the problem, deactivate the File shield from your Antivirus program while the installer is running. After the installation has completed, turn the shield back on.

Q: Can models created with the full version of Migri be run in MigriX?
A: Yes, but the size model geometry cannot exceed 2.5 million elements in MigriX (not accounting for sublayers). Larger models must be resampled by re-creating the geometries in MigriX (Edit->Create Geometries option). The model will be auto-resampled, so that it can be opened in MigriX.

Q: How do I activate a MigriX license?
A: MigriX supports two alternative license control systems:
- License key - an uncounted MigriX license, which will only function on one designated computer.
- FLEXnet licensing - using a license file. Allows for accessing floating licenses from a license server.

The license key option can be activated by opening the License Status panel in the Help menu. This will show information about the current license, once it has been activated. A 30 day trial period can be activated by pressing the Start free trial period button. If you have a license key available, it can be activated by pressing the Activate license key button. The license key option cannot be used in virtual machine (VM) environments. To use MigriX in a VM environment, please contact us at support@migris.no and we will provide you with a evaluation license for the FLEXnet system.

Q: Which data formats does MigriX support?
A: The MigriX software can use a large variety of file formats, including :
Grids:Irap, ZMAP+,  CPS-3,  Geocap, ArcGIS ESRI
Well data: LAS 2.0, CSV, various XYZ data formats, SQLite
Polygon data: ZMAP+ ASCII, Irap ASCII, CSV, various XYZ data formats
Fault data: TrapTester , Petrel fault sticks, ZMAP+ ASCII, Irap ASCII, CSV, various XYZ data formats
Seismic data: SEGY, VoxelGeo (Paradigm), RSF (Madagascar)

Q: I Cannot open Help?
A: One possible cause is that the same version of MigriX was installed to a different location at first, which later was deleted or moved.  The cached copy of the help pages (used to speed up loading) may then still be pointing to the old installation directory.  On windows, this problem can be resolved by deleting the MigriX help cache, which is located in the following directory:  User\AppData\Local\migrixhelp

Q: How do I export model results from MigriX?
A: To explain results shown on a layer in the 3D view in grid format, right-click on the layer and select "Save property as grid". The outlines of areas (e.g. for a drainage area) can be saved by using the "Save property as outline". Results can also be automatically each time a timestep is simulated.

Q: Is there a bug-list for MigriX?
A: A list of known and solved issues for different program versions the can be found on the online Known and new issues page.

Q: Which input data is required by MigriX?
A: The minimum requirement for running a quick-look migration model is one or depth maps covering the kitchen area and prospect location. The depth maps can be in Zmap+, Irap or XYZ point format. Other input data such as facies maps and source rock properties can be loaded as grids in the same format as for depth maps.

Q:  I am having problems with loading project, or accessing some data types?
A: If the project was created or modified with a newer version than the MigriX in use, the project may be using some features not supported by your version of MigriX. Consider upgrading the installation to a new release. If this is not possible, check if there are messages titled "Required" in the information panel. These messages may suggest which parts of the system are causing problems.
