4.3 Generation and expulsion

Source rock generation and expulsion is modelled using the built-in capabilities in MigriX. An overview of the input data and parameters needed to perform this modelling step is given in the Source rocks input chapter.

The initial source rock potential (e.g. TOC, HI, Total potential) properties can be viewed from Model/Source Model in the project workspace. Modelled generated and expelled HC volumes can be found in the Results/Expelled folder. The Oil.generated and Gas.generated properties show the cumulative generated HC volumes per square meter, while the Oil.expelled and Gas.expelled properties show the cumulative expelled volumes.

The Expelled windows property shows the dominant expelled phase and through time from the source rock. It can be used to make a quick comparison of the generation potential from the different source rock units in the model. An overview of all the different generation and expulsion result plots can be found in the Expelled chapter.
